Nottinghamshire LIFTCos are currently in the throes of upgrading three health centres across the county at a total cost of £1.3m.

The lion’s share of this work for £810k is committed to converting a 650m2 hospital ward known as ‘Byron Ward’ into a state-of-the-art primary care facility at Ashfield Community Hospital , Kirkby in Ashfield . A total of 30 consulting rooms, treatment rooms and offices have been created, along with extra car parking. The facility will open to patients this Spring.

In addition, £200k is being invested in a single storey extension and some minor refurbishment works at Clipstone Health Centre. The new wing will house additional treatment rooms for the GP practice based there, benefiting over 9,300 patients. The work is scheduled to be completed in March this year.

Finally, another £300k is being invested in the internal refurbishment of Radford Health Centre in Nottingham. The building houses four GP practices serving 11,000 patients and is due to be completed by the end of February.

Lee Clayton, Chief Executive of Nottinghamshire LIFTCos, said: “These three projects demonstrate Nottinghamshire LIFTCos' commitment to working in partnership with the Primary Care Trusts to improve the health and social care facilities across Nottinghamshire in the most appropriate and cost-effective way possible. These refurbishments will benefit GPs, staff and patients alike, and we shouldn't under-estimate the challenged posed at all three projects of having to undertake significant building work whilst other parts of the buildings remain open for business."
